first time ever at the drag strip. made three passes (one against another bike in the above video....I’m far lane. No I dont know what the other guy was doing)
after that, some guy in a VERY high HP supra broke either his transmission or his diff. shut down the left lane for the rest of the night. so my other two passes were by myself (no video)
what the hell happened with my last run you ask? well...I launched too hard and spun the tire off the line. as I felt the back end slip sideways 4 inches and the motor spinning @ 10K, I figured now would be a REALLY bad moment for the rear to suddenly hook up and flip me over. so I rolled off and let the tire hook before giving it more. cost me a lot of time.
oh well. a best ET of 12.369 and a fastest trap of 107.41 MPH. not bad for a little old Sv650 eh?

Not bad, not bad at all. Especially when you consider you’re running a machine that’s easily faster than quite a few cars out there, and even up against some larger bikes you’re still running faster.

Awesome!
What are the tech requirements? Do you basically just show up with a bike and go?

I lay the blame in the fact that i’m a skinny mofo (165lbs fully geared...MAYBE)
still feel like I could have gotten into the 11s. grr. thats my goal for next year.

pretty much. they ‘teched’ a friends car... wanted a closed rad system and a overflow bottle.
bikes? as long as you had gear on. if your bike ran 10.99 and under, you had to have a full race suit.

Nothing wrong with being a skinny rider, I’m right around 155 lbs geared up (and I stand 6'1, built like a toothpick). Helps significantly with power-to-weight.
Let’s see, you could do carbon fiber wheels (yeah, pricey), strip down some bodywork (unless you’re on the fully naked SV650), replace some fasteners with titanium....just a couple of ideas.

bike has NO motor work (other then a filter and pipe)
so, i’m thinking right reaction time, better tires (worn out PR4 that day) and maybe a tune for 91 octane I’ll get 11.99

Nice RT on that last run! Too bad about the spin.

Those are a couple of options. If you’re running dual carbs (I think I’ve seen you write a couple posts about carb removal/cleaning/install) you could convert to pods vice a single filter. Balancing carbs might seem like a pain in the ass (believe me, I know - a bank of 4 is a LOT of fun to synchronize) but the pods would help. A jet kit would also be a good idea if you haven’t done one, and general maintenance (valve check/adjustment and spark plugs) can bring back any power that’s been lost over time.
Still though, that’s a respectable 1/4 mile time and would eat my M50 for breakfast (and I’ve done the shortly pipes/fuel controller/filter/airbox mod combo)

fuel injected bike, not my carby model
I have 2 SV’s/ the black one (my daily, fuel injected second gen. GSX-R suspension)
and the yellow on (a flip) witch is my carbed bike,

Single or dual throttle bodies? Pods could still help, and a fuel controller could also come in handy (insert shameless plug for Dobeck Fuel Controllers here).

duals. thinking of removing the secondary butterflys (helps soften the blow lower down a bit) pods and a tune.
then again, thats like $1000. $1000 that I can spend on tires, fuel, or towards that MT-10 i want

I have the Wiseco fuel controller, which is a rebranded controller from Dobeck performance. It’s $250.00 for the SV650, but believe me, I completely understand the “tuning in a budget” problem.

I used to drag race bikes. Started small and local and ended up racing fairly serious at the national level. Playing back my 9 years, I have the happiest memories of just riding to the track with a few tools in the tank bag-and racing my 82 Yamaha Seca 650.
I’m betting you can get it in the 11's with just more seat time. 3 hits on the tree isn’t much to go by. Till you get done freaking out worrying about whats the bike going to do, you’re just making laps.
What you need to do on a street tire bike to get off the line is slide the clutch. Your clutch probably shouldn’t be all the way out till 100ft or so. You want to use 2 fingers on the clutch. When you stage, have the clutch released out just before grabbing-holding a steady rpm. When you leave (off the 3rd yellow) pin the throttle and ssslllliiiiddde the clutch out-keeping your chest on the tank. A good launch has your front tire 1/2" off the ground and your back tire just starting to spin. Try shifting clutchless just blipping the throttle to shift.
The bike isn’t a powerhouse- its a bit out of its element-but hey have fun with what you got. Look at you MPH at 1/2 track + at the top end. Even though you screwed up the launch on your 3rd pass, the mph’s are still basically the same. The bike is out of breath by the 660ft. what gear are you in at the line? What are you revving?

Already doing clutchless shifts after 2nd (sometimes it misses the 1-2 shift like that)
I launch in first, dont really rev it that much. I know I ahould be riding the clutch way more, but I also have to daily drive the stupid thing and dont want to burnout a clutch :)
